Zig Zag Trim
Rick rack (sometimes called zigzag trim) comes in a myriad of widths and colors. Sometimes finding the right size can be difficult. It’s hard to tell the difference between 3/8th inch rick rack and ¼ inch rick rack visually.
Here’s an easy way to measure rick rack to be sure you get the size you want.
Rick rack is measured between a zig (the outermost left edge) and a zag (the outermost right edge). To check the size, you’ll need a pencil, a piece of paper, and a ruler. Begin by putting a dot on the edge of a zig and on the edge of the zag beneath it. See illustration 1 below.
Use a ruler to draw a line down through each dot. See illustration 2.
Place a ruler on the lines and check the distance between them. As you can see from illustration 3 below the width of the rick rack I measured is 1 1/4 inch (or 1.25 inches). The measurement might not be exact since all trim widths are approximate. In that case, round up to the nearest width: ¼ inch, 3/8 inch, ½ inch, 5/8 inch, 7/8 inch, 1 1/4 inch and larger.
I hope this tip is helpful to you!
