With just one yard of gathered or pleated two inch wide quilt binding and a hot glue gun, you can quickly and easily make no sew roses and similar flowers to decorate items such as pillows, wreaths, tiebacks, etc. Since this project only takes one yard, it's a great way to use up leftover scraps of quilt binding in shorter lengths. For a more colorful effect, you can even combine two complimentary colors.

      Supplies:

      • One yard of ruffled or pleated quilt binding (the yellow flower below was made from pleated binding; the roses were made from gathered binding) in your choice of color for each 3 inch flower
      • A hot glue gun
      • Artificial leaves (optional)

      Let's Get Started!

To begin, fold one end of the binding down with the ruffled or pleated portion facing to the left at a 45 degree angle and affix with a daub of hot glue.

Then wind about 2-3 inches tightly to form the center of the flower, again using hot glue to hold everything in place. Continue in this manner until you reach the end of the binding. Use a bit more hot glue to hold the edge tight. Trim the bottom and that's it! These pretty roses are so fast to make (less than five minutes each) and can be used in so many places. Satin and eyelet binding can also be used for even more variation. Refer to the examples shown below for ideas.
